About the Jobs

A large, federal government agency has several open positions in its Washington, DC-based Personnel Selection Group and is seeking applicants from junior to experienced levels. The work in these roles focuses on designing, conducting and interpreting the results of job analyses and validation studies; selection instrument design, development, implementation and evaluation; consulting with internal clients and working with/managing external vendor groups.

Job duties 

Job duties include the following:

  • Development, implementation, validation and evaluation of selection and assessment systems, tools and processes to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines and demonstrate measureable impact to the organization.
  • Consulting with and influencing cross functional leadership to assess selection needs and design strategic solutions to meet them. Support the design and implementation of selection and assessment systems tools and processes by coordinating and providing direction to internal stakeholders.
  • Development and implementation of a variety of research efforts including, defining, testing, and documenting the feasibility of alternative selection methods, and making recommendations to improve programs and procedures based on industry best practices and feedback.
  • Management of external vendors to develop, validate, and deploy a full range of selection and assessment systems, tools and processes.

Specific to senior-level positions:

  • Provide project oversight, and technical guidance (e.g., methodological, statistical, psychometric) to a team of psychologists and technical professionals. Coaches and mentors junior staff to develop leadership skills and technical abilities.


Successful candidates will possess the following:

  • A graduate degree in I-O Psychology, applied Psychology or a closely related field which included a focus on selection methods, statistics and/or psychometrics.
  • The ability to establish, document and monitor validity evidence, fairness and support of the legal defensibility of a range of selection systems and/or tools and document the positive impact of selection systems.
  • The ability to provide consultative services, coordinating and directing the activities, processes and procedures to ensure alignment with strategic business needs while influencing executive project sponsors and stakeholders.
  • The ability to perform statistical analyses and apply psychometric principles in the development and revision of a range of selection procedures.

Specific to senior-level positions:

  • The ability to manage organization-wide testing and assessment projects, and provide leadership and direction to team members about planning, organizing and coordinating project related activities.
  • Ph.D. is preferred
